VS COMPARISON

TinyPNG Alternative for Bigger Files

Unlimited free compression, 50 MB per image instead of TinyPNG's 5 MB, and presets that compress to an exact 50, 100, 200 or 500 KB. No signup, no watermark.

The short version

TinyPNG is very good at one job, and it has been doing it since 2012. If you compress a handful of small PNGs a week, there is no reason to switch. Two limits push people to look elsewhere: the free web tool caps uploads at 5 MB per image, and it converts only three images at a time to another format. Snipinsta accepts 50 MB per image, converts without that cap, and can compress to a file size you name rather than to a quality setting you have to guess.

Everything below was checked against both products on 31 August 2026. Where TinyPNG is the better tool, this page says so.

Where TinyPNG is the better choice

  • JPEG XL and a mature AVIF pipeline. TinyPNG outputs JXL; Snipinsta does not support it at all. If your target platform reads JXL, that decides it.
  • A far more generous free API. 500 compressions a month against Snipinsta's 20, and no payment method required to get a key. For build pipelines this is the one that matters.
  • Plugins where you already work. Photoshop and Figma plugins have no Snipinsta equivalent.
  • A known quantity. Its PNG quantisation is the reference many people benchmark against, and it has a decade of production use behind it.

Where Snipinsta is the better choice

  • Files over 5 MB. A modern phone photo or a camera JPEG is routinely 8–25 MB. TinyPNG's free web tool rejects those; Snipinsta takes up to 50 MB.
  • Hitting an exact size limit. Job portals, government forms and email systems ask for "under 200 KB". Snipinsta searches for the highest quality that still fits and tells you if it cannot reach it.
  • Converting more than three images. TinyPNG's free conversion stops at three; Snipinsta's converter has no such cap.
  • Doing the next step too. Resize, crop, background removal, OCR, PDF conversion and GIF tools live on the same site, so you are not exporting into a second product.

Which should you actually use?

Use TinyPNG when

You are compressing small PNGs for the web, you want JXL or AVIF output, you are wiring compression into a build step, or you want it inside Photoshop or Figma.

Use Snipinsta when

Your files are bigger than 5 MB, you need to land under a specific KB figure, you are converting a folder rather than three images, or the compression is one step in a longer edit.

What "free" means here, precisely

Compression, resizing, format conversion, HEIC conversion, OCR, collages, EXIF reading, PDF conversion and every photo effect are unlimited on the free plan, with no account and no watermark on the output. A batch takes up to 30 images for compression and 20 for resizing and conversion, at 50 MB per image.

The AI tools are metered, because they cost real GPU time: the free plan includes 5 background removals, 5 GIF creations and 10 memes per month. Paid plans start at $2.50/month and raise those limits — compression stays unlimited on every tier, including free.

TinyPNG's own site states its free web tool accepts up to 20 images at once, at a maximum of 5 MB each, and converts up to 3 images to another format. Its API offers 500 free compressions per month with no payment method required. Figures checked on 31 August 2026.

Yes. Snipinsta has 50, 100, 200 and 500 KB presets. It searches for the highest quality that still lands under the target and tells you when a target cannot be reached, rather than returning an oversized file. TinyPNG has no target-size mode.

The converter reads JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP, TIFF and HEIC, and writes JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, BMP and HEIF. The compressor returns JPEG or WebP depending on whether the image has transparency. Snipinsta does not support JPEG XL; TinyPNG does.

Yes. TinyPNG outputs JPEG XL, offers 500 free API compressions a month against Snipinsta's 20, and has official Photoshop and Figma plugins. For build pipelines and design-tool workflows it is the stronger option.

No. Every tool works without signing in. An account only tracks your monthly allowance for the metered AI tools and unlocks higher limits on a paid plan.
